Prayer Notes
Stone all three Jamarat
WajibAfter Dhuhr (the time for stoning begins after the sun passes its zenith), proceed to stone all three Jamarat in order. Start with the smallest pillar (al-Jamrah al-Sughra, closest to Masjid al-Khayf), then the middle pillar (al-Jamrah al-Wusta), and finally the largest pillar (Jamrat al-Aqabah). Throw 7 pebbles at each pillar, one at a time, saying 'Bismillah, Allahu Akbar' with each throw.
Stone during the less crowded periods if possible (late afternoon or evening). The Prophet (peace be upon him) stoned after zawal (the sun passing its zenith).
Duas for this step
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
Bismillah, Allahu Akbar
“In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest.”
Make dua after stoning the small and middle pillars
SunnahAfter stoning the small pillar (al-Sughra), move to the right, face the Qiblah, raise your hands, and make a lengthy supplication. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stood facing the Qiblah for a long time making dua after stoning the first Jamrah (Sahih al-Bukhari 1751). Repeat the same after stoning the middle pillar (al-Wusta). After stoning Jamrat al-Aqabah (the large pillar), do NOT stand for dua. Leave immediately, as this was the Sunnah of the Prophet.
Stay at Mina overnight
WajibSpend the night at Mina. Staying at Mina during the nights of Tashreeq is wajib according to the majority of scholars. The Prophet (peace be upon him) spent the nights of the 11th and 12th at Mina. Use this time for worship, dhikr, and rest. The Takbir of Tashreeq should be recited after every obligatory prayer: 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illAllah, wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil-hamd.'
