The main international gateway for pilgrims traveling to Makkah and Madinah. The airport has a dedicated Hajj Terminal (South Terminal) that handles the massive influx of pilgrims during the Hajj season. Terminal 1 handles most international and domestic flights year-round. The airport is located about 19 km north of the city center.

-Allow extra time during Hajj and Umrah peak seasons, as the airport gets very busy
-SIM cards, currency exchange, and Zamzam water are available in the arrivals hall
-The Hajj Terminal is one of the largest in the world and operates only during Hajj season

Getting to Makkah from Jeddah

Transport

Makkah is approximately 80 km east of Jeddah, about 1 to 1.5 hours by car depending on traffic. The Haramain High-Speed Railway connects Jeddah airport to Makkah in approximately 30 minutes. Private taxis and ride-hailing services are also available. During Hajj season, organized group buses are the primary transport for pilgrims.

Tips

-The Haramain train is the fastest option. Book tickets through the SAR app
-Taxi fare from Jeddah to Makkah is typically 150 to 250 SAR depending on the vehicle type
-Non-Muslims are not permitted to enter the Haram boundary area of Makkah
-SAPTCO buses also run scheduled services between Jeddah and Makkah

Getting to Madinah from Jeddah

Transport

Madinah is approximately 420 km north of Jeddah. The Haramain High-Speed Railway connects Jeddah to Madinah in approximately 1.5 hours. Domestic flights take about 1 hour. Road travel takes approximately 4 to 5 hours by car or bus.
