Every Australian meat label carries an AUS EST number, the federal identifier for the facility that slaughtered, boned, or packed the meat. The number sits inside an oval or rectangular stamp that reads "AUS EST" followed by 1 to 4 digits, and it is the single most reliable way to trace a pack of meat back to its source.

HalalHQ tracks 108 halal-certified establishments covering beef, lamb, and goat across VIC, NSW, WA, QLD, SA, TAS, and NT, drawn from the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) recognised Islamic bodies list and the Malaysia Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) approved plant list. Both are authoritative government registers, refreshed periodically and dated on every page so you can judge freshness at a glance.

Type a number above to see the establishment's halal status, the certifier on file, the species processed, and when the certification was last verified. State-letter EST numbers (e.g. 123V for Victoria, or other suffixes like W, Q, S, N, T, D) belong to state-regulated, domestic-only facilities outside the federal export register, and are not yet covered. Frequently asked questions

What is an AUS EST number?
AUS EST is the Australian Establishment number, a federal identifier for a meat-processing facility (abattoir, boning room, cold store, or processor). It appears inside a stamp on packaged meat, usually as "AUS EST ###".
Where do I find the EST number on a label?
Look for a stamped or printed oval or circular mark that reads "AUS EST ###" on the product wrapper. The number is typically 1 to 4 digits. You may also see state-letter EST numbers (e.g. 123V) for state-regulated, domestic-only establishments, which are outside our current federal dataset.
What if my EST has a letter at the end (like 123V)?
A letter suffix means the facility is regulated by a state authority rather than the federal Department of Agriculture: V is Victoria (PrimeSafe), W is Western Australia, Q is Queensland (Safe Food), S is South Australia, N is New South Wales, T is Tasmania, D is Northern Territory. These are domestic-only facilities and are not in our dataset yet , we are starting with the federal export register and adding state registers as community demand directs.
Is every meat establishment halal?
No. An establishment is halal only if certified by a recognised Islamic body. The absence of certification does not automatically mean the meat is haram, but Muslim shoppers typically look for explicit halal confirmation. We show the facility's halal status and certifier on the detail page.
Does halal-certified mean the meat I buy is definitely halal?
Not always. Certification covers the establishment's slaughter and processing , it does not follow the meat through transport, wholesale, butcher-counter handling, or further manufacturing. Cross-contamination at a deli counter, additives in marinated or processed products (sausages, smallgoods), or a cert that has expired or been suspended since our last refresh can all mean a specific pack is not halal even when the EST itself is certified. Certifiers also disagree on stunning, recorded tasmiya, and who can perform the slaughter, so what is halal under one body may not be halal under another. When in doubt, check directly with the certifier on file.
Where does HalalHQ get this data?
From the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) recognised Islamic bodies list and the Malaysia Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) approved plant list. Both are authoritative government registers, and we refresh imports periodically.
Can I submit a correction or a missing establishment?
Yes. Every directory page has a submit link. Let us know and we will verify and add it. Corrections to existing records are welcome and reviewed against the authoritative sources above.
