What is a Meeqat?
Meeqat (plural: Mawaqit) are the designated boundary stations set by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) where pilgrims must enter the state of Ihram before proceeding to Makkah for Umrah or Hajj. Passing the Meeqat without Ihram requires a sacrifice (fidyah) as compensation.
For Australian Pilgrims
Most flights from Australia transit through Dubai, Doha, Kuala Lumpur, or Singapore. The relevant Meeqat is Qarn al-Manazil. Enter Ihram at your transit airport before the connecting flight to Jeddah.
Located about 80km east of Makkah in the Taif region. This is the Meeqat for travelers from the Najd region and those coming from the east, including most flights from Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Australia.
