Question 1

What is HalalHQ?

Accepted Answer

HalalHQ is Australia's halal lifestyle platform. It brings together a curated directory of halal restaurants, mosques and prayer rooms, the Souq marketplace for Shariah-compliant businesses, Islamic events, services, a Quran reader, prayer times, and community reviews, all in one free app and website.

Question 2

Who runs HalalHQ and is it independent?

Accepted Answer

HalalHQ is an independent, Muslim-built platform serving the Australian Muslim community. It is not owned by any restaurant, certifier, or government body, and a portion of its earnings is reinvested into the halal community.

Question 3

How does HalalHQ decide whether a restaurant is halal?

Accepted Answer

Every venue carries a HalalHQ halal_status verdict: Fully Halal, Halal-Friendly, or Halal Options, based on menu analysis, certification details, community reports, and direct checks. Venues the HalalHQ team has personally confirmed are marked HalalHQ Confirmed. For strict dietary needs, HalalHQ always recommends confirming directly with the venue.

Question 4

How many halal restaurants and mosques does HalalHQ cover?

Accepted Answer

HalalHQ maintains one of Australia's largest structured halal directories, covering thousands of halal restaurants and hundreds of mosques and prayer rooms across every Australian state. Current totals are shown live on the HalalHQ About page.

Question 5

Where does HalalHQ operate?

Accepted Answer

HalalHQ currently focuses on Australia, covering halal venues nationwide across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, the ACT, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory, with plans to expand globally.

Question 6

Is HalalHQ free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Discovering halal restaurants, mosques, prayer times, the Quran reader, and community features is free. HalalHQ never charges for core discovery or worship features.

Question 7

How does HalalHQ determine halal classifications?

Accepted Answer

HalalHQ uses advanced AI technology to analyze multiple data sources including restaurant websites, reviews, certification information, and menu descriptions. Our AI provides a confidence score (0-100%) indicating how certain we are about the halal status. This is not a "halal score" but rather our confidence in the classification based on available evidence.

Question 8

What AI technology does HalalHQ use?

Accepted Answer

We use advanced AI technology to process and analyze restaurant data. The AI examines various sources of information and provides structured analysis with confidence levels. All AI determinations are transparent - you can see the confidence level and reasoning behind each classification.

Question 9

How accurate are the AI-generated classifications?

Accepted Answer

Our AI provides confidence scores that indicate reliability. Higher confidence (80%+) means strong evidence supporting the classification. Lower confidence suggests limited or conflicting information. We always recommend verifying with the restaurant directly, especially for strict dietary requirements.

Question 10

What data sources does the AI analyze?

Accepted Answer

Our AI analyzes restaurant websites, online reviews, menu descriptions, certification information, and publicly available data. We also incorporate community feedback and verification reports from our users to continuously improve accuracy.

Question 11

How does HalalHQ gather restaurant information?

Accepted Answer

We collect data through multiple channels: Google Places API integration, community submissions, and manual verification. Our AI processes this information to provide structured analysis with confidence levels.

Question 12

How often is restaurant data updated?

Accepted Answer

We understand the frustration of outdated information that the halal-conscious community faces when searching for reliable halal options. Our platform prioritizes fresh, community-driven updates through multiple channels: community submissions, user feedback, and real-time verification reports. Our platform uses AI to analyze and classify existing information with confidence scores for transparency. As we grow, in sha Allah, we plan to expand our AI capabilities to perform regular automated verification scans that detect when information changes, working alongside our community to ensure the most reliable halal lifestyle information globally.

Question 13

How can I report incorrect information?

Accepted Answer

You can report incorrect restaurant information through the verification feature on individual restaurant pages, or contact us directly at feedback@halalhq.io. We investigate all reports and update our database accordingly. Community verification helps us maintain accuracy.

Question 14

What happens when restaurant information changes?

Accepted Answer

When restaurants change their halal status, certification, or menu, we update our database and re-analyze the information. Our AI provides new confidence scores based on the updated data. We encourage community members to report such changes for faster updates.

Question 15

Do you show Google reviews?

Accepted Answer

We show Google's star rating and review count on a venue page, marked "Also on Google", because it is useful next to what our own community says. We do not reproduce the text of anyone's Google review. That rating reaches us through Google's official Places API, which we call and pay for, so nothing on our pages is scraped from another platform. The written reviews you read on HalalHQ are contributed by our own members.

Question 16

How do user reviews affect classifications?

Accepted Answer

User reviews and feedback provide valuable real-world verification of our AI classifications. While they don't directly change confidence scores, they help us identify discrepancies and update our analysis. Community verification is crucial for maintaining accuracy.

Question 17

Can I upload photos of restaurants?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Registered users can upload photos of restaurants, menus, and certification displays. Photos are moderated for quality and appropriateness. High-quality photos help other community members make informed decisions and can become featured hero photos.

Question 18

How does the community feedback system work?

Accepted Answer

Our community feedback system allows users to submit suggestions, report issues, and request new features. Feedback is reviewed by our team and helps shape platform improvements. You can access it through the feedback page at /feedback, or contact us directly.

Question 19

What are HalalHQ points and how do I earn them?

Accepted Answer

HalalHQ points reward community contributions. You earn points by uploading photos, writing reviews, submitting feedback, and suggesting new restaurants. Points reflect your contribution to the community and may unlock future benefits as we grow.

Question 20

How reliable are HalalHQ's halal determinations?

Accepted Answer

Our classifications come with confidence scores that indicate reliability. We're transparent about limitations - our AI provides informed analysis based on available data, but we always recommend verifying directly with restaurants for your specific dietary requirements, especially for strict halal observance.

Question 21

Does HalalHQ visit restaurants in person?

Accepted Answer

Currently, our analysis is primarily data-driven through AI and community contributions. We don't conduct systematic in-person visits, but our community members often provide real-world verification through reviews and photos. In sha Allah, we plan to expand verification methods as we grow.

Question 22

What if I disagree with a halal classification?

Accepted Answer

Please report restaurant-specific concerns through the verification feature on individual restaurant pages! We take all reports seriously and investigate discrepancies. Our AI analysis is continuously improving, and community input is essential for accuracy. You can contact us at feedback@halalhq.io with general concerns.

Question 23

How does HalalHQ handle certification verification?

Accepted Answer

Our AI analyzes certification information when available on restaurant websites or through other sources. We display certification details with appropriate confidence levels. For the most current certification status, we recommend verifying directly with the certification body or restaurant.

Question 24

What Islamic features can I filter by?
