Sydney Airport T2 finally has a proper multi-faith room, opposite Gate 55
Travelled through Sydney domestic last week for client meetings and was glad to see Sydney Airport has opened a dedicated Multi Faith Room in T2 Domestic. They announced it on their official socials on Monday and confirmed it is open now.
For those of us who fly Sydney domestic regularly, this is overdue. The only proper prayer space at Sydney Airport before this was the one at T1 International on Level 3, which is no use on a domestic itinerary because you cannot cross over after security. Brisbane and Perth domestic terminals have had prayer rooms for years, so Sydney has been the gap.
The new room is opposite Gate 55, post-security, and is open during terminal operating hours. From Sydney Airport's own description it is a quiet, inclusive space for prayer and reflection open to passengers of all faiths.
A few practical notes:
- It is past security, so allocate extra time to get airside
- Operating hours follow the terminal, so very early flights or red-eyes may not have access
- Wudu facilities are not advertised, so make wudu in the toilets nearby before going in
- Direction of qibla and prayer mat availability are not confirmed, would appreciate an update from anyone who has been
A small thing but it makes domestic travel for those of us who pray five times daily much easier. InshaAllah more terminals follow.
