The Day of Ashura is almost here. Are you planning to fast?
The Day of Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, is almost here. It is expected on Thursday 25 June (10 Muharram 1448), with the 9th (Tasu'a) on Wednesday 24 June, subject to moonsighting, so confirm the day with your local mosque.
Fasting Ashura is a strongly recommended sunnah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked about fasting the day of Ashura and said that it expiates the sins of the previous year, as narrated in Sahih Muslim. He also intended to fast the 9th alongside the 10th, so many of us fast both days inshaAllah.
If you want the dates, the significance, and how it is observed here in Australia, we put together a short guide: https://halalhq.io/blog/community/day-of-ashura-2026-australia
Are you planning to fast this year, the 9th and 10th or just the 10th? Share your intention so we can encourage each other.

Assalamu alaikum. JazakAllah khair for the reminder. We fast both the 9th and 10th in our house every year, it is a beautiful sunnah to keep alive. I will read the guide with the children so they understand why we fast it. May Allah accept from us all.

Planning to fast both this year inshaAllah. Last year I only managed the 10th because of a shift, so this time I have organised my roster around it. The expiation of a whole year is too good to miss.
