The Islamic New Year is almost here. How do you mark Muharram?

The Islamic New Year is almost here. 1 Muharram 1448 is expected on Tuesday 16 June, subject to moonsighting, so depending on your local mosque the new year may begin on the 16th or 17th. Muharram is one of the four sacred months, and the new year is a quiet marker of the Hijrah rather than a festival. Many of us welcome it by renewing good intentions, giving in charity, and planning to fast around Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, expected Thursday 25 June (with the 9th on Wednesday 24 June). We put together two short guides to help you plan: Islamic New Year 2026: https://halalhq.io/blog/community/islamic-new-year-2026-australia Day of Ashura 2026: https://halalhq.io/blog/community/day-of-ashura-2026-australia How does your family mark the start of Muharram? Share one intention or habit you are carrying into 1448.
