The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) is the central and peak body representing Australian-based Muslim Imams, Shaykhas and Islamic scholars, registered as a public company in 2006 as an umbrella organisation of state and territory Councils of Imams. Its core role is religious leadership: uniting Imams, appointing the Grand Mufti of Australia, and issuing Islamic rulings through its Australian Fatwa Council, alongside community programs, education, dispute resolution and advocacy. ANIC holds an Approved Islamic Organisation arrangement with the Australian Government for the certification of halal red meat for export to Malaysia, Singapore and other markets requiring a halal certificate. Broader product and premises halal certification is carried out through its affiliated ANIC Halal Authority.
