Is Marrybrown halal in Australia?
Marrybrown says yes. Marrybrown states on its Australian website that it is halal certified, describing its chicken as fresh, hand marinated, hand breaded and halal certified, and its menu as a trusted halal menu. It is a Malaysian fried chicken chain, and in Malaysia the brand is known as a halal one, which is a big part of why the question comes up so often here.
What we could not find is who certified it in Australia. The website does not name a certifying body, and we did not find Marrybrown on any Australian certifier's public register. That does not mean the certificate does not exist. It means we could not check it, and we would rather tell you that plainly than paper over it.
So the short version: the brand says halal certified, we found nothing that contradicts it, and we found no pork or alcohol on the menu. We list all 13 stores we know of as fully halal on that basis. If a certificate you can read matters to you, ask to see it at the counter.
Who certifies Marrybrown in Australia?
We do not know, and the brand does not say. Marrybrown's Australian website uses the words halal certified but nowhere names the organisation that issued the certificate, and we did not find a certificate image on the site, on third party directories, or in press coverage of the brand's Australian launch.

Is the chicken hand slaughtered? We do not know. Marrybrown's Australian website does not say how its chicken is slaughtered or who supplies it, and that is the second thing worth asking in store if it matters to you.
One caution. These checks were done from the brand's public material and the menu boards in our store photos, not from an ingredient audit, so read this as nothing found rather than as a guarantee.

Where are the Marrybrown stores in Australia?
Victoria only, as of September 2026. Marrybrown opened its first Australian store in Melbourne in May 2023 and says on its website that it now runs 16 outlets across Victoria. We list 13 of them on HalalHQ, all marked fully halal, from the CBD out to Craigieburn, Deer Park, Dandenong and Wantirna South. The three we do not yet list are most likely recent openings, and we add stores as we confirm them.
We found no Marrybrown store in New South Wales, Queensland or any other state at the time of writing, despite earlier press about interstate expansion. If one opens near you before this guide is updated, the same questions apply: it is a new premises, and any certificate would be issued for that store.
What should you ask at a Marrybrown store?
Ask to see the halal certificate. A certified store will have one it can show you, and it will name the certifier, the premises and an expiry date. If the counter staff cannot find it, ask for the manager rather than assuming the worst, because many stores keep it in the office rather than on the wall.
