Quick answer: expected 8 February, not yet confirmed
Calendar projections point to Monday 8 February 2027. The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) had published no 2027 date when we checked on 31 October 2026, and last year it announced the start six days ahead. Plan around 8 February, and expect it could be a day later.
When Does Ramadan 2027 Start in Australia?
Ramadan 2027 is expected to start around Monday 8 February 2027 in Australia, and the date is not official until ANIC announces it. Published calendar projections, such as the tentative date on timeanddate.com, give 8 February, but a projection is not a ruling. The first night of Ramadan, with the first Tarawih prayer, would then be the evening of Sunday 7 February.
We have not found an ANIC or Australian Fatwa Council statement for 2027. This page will be updated the day they announce.
How Is the Start of Ramadan Decided in Australia?
In Australia the Grand Mufti and the Australian Fatwa Council announce one national date, and they decide it by when the new moon is born in relation to sunset. ANIC's own statement for Ramadan 2026 sets out the rule: if the new moon is born after sunset, the month cannot start that evening.
That statement is dated 13 February 2026 and gave the start as Thursday 19 February 2026, six days ahead. The same statement says the Imams and scholars may hold different opinions on the matter and asks Australian Muslims to respect each other and keep unity. A few mosques and groups follow a different method, so it is worth asking your own mosque which date it follows.

When Is Eid al-Fitr 2027 in Australia?
If Ramadan starts on 8 February, Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 after a 29 day month, or Wednesday 10 March 2027 after a 30 day month. The month is 29 or 30 days, so the two dates are the only ones that fit an 8 February start.
A start on 9 February moves both dates a day later. Eid is announced separately and close to the day, so book time off for both and confirm nearer the time.

Will the Fasts Be Long in Ramadan 2027?
Yes, the fasts will be on the longer side, because Ramadan 2027 falls in the Australian summer. Days are longer in the southern cities than in the northern ones, so the gap between suhoor and iftar differs by city.
We have not listed fasting hours here, because exact times depend on your suburb and the day, and they are only reliable once the start date is confirmed. Your mosque timetable gives them for your area. The two things that matter most on a summer fast are steady water between iftar and fajr, and a suhoor that is eaten, not skipped.
How Should You Prepare Before Ramadan 2027 Begins?
Start with the five things that are hard to arrange in the last week: your mosque, your roster, your pantry, your giving and your rhythm. Each is easier in December than in February.
- 1
Find your mosque and its Tarawih plan
Mosques usually post their Tarawih time and rakaat count close to the start. Save your nearest two so you have a backup if one fills up.
- 2
Talk to work or school early
Ask about flexible hours or a break at iftar well before February, while rosters are still being written. An early request gives your employer time to plan around it.
- 3
Stock the pantry and check the labels
Dates, lentils, rice and tinned goods keep. Check halal status on packaged items before the first week rush. The HalalHQ product directory shows the verdict we hold for each product.
- 4
Plan your giving
If you pay zakat or give sadaqah in Ramadan, decide who and how much beforehand, so the first ten days are not spent working it out.
- 5
Ease into the fasting rhythm
Ramadan 2027 falls in summer. Drinking water steadily and eating a balanced suhoor matters more in long, warm days.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does Ramadan 2027 start in Australia?
Ramadan 2027 is expected to start around Monday 8 February 2027 in Australia, but the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) has not announced the date yet. ANIC decides each year by calculating the birth of the new moon against sunset, so the start could fall a day later. Confirm with ANIC or your mosque before you plan.
Who announces the start of Ramadan in Australia?
The Grand Mufti of Australia and the Australian Fatwa Council, through ANIC, announce a national start date. For Ramadan 2026 the statement was dated 13 February 2026 and set the start for Thursday 19 February 2026, six days ahead. Other Australian bodies and some mosques follow their own method, so a small number of communities begin on a different day.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027 in Australia?
If Ramadan starts on Monday 8 February 2027, Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 after a 29 day month, or Wednesday 10 March 2027 after a 30 day month. A later Ramadan start moves Eid later by the same amount. ANIC announces Eid separately, close to the date.
Will the fasts be long in Ramadan 2027 in Australia?
Yes, they will be on the longer side, because Ramadan 2027 falls in the Australian summer. The gap between fajr and maghrib is longest in the southern cities. Your mosque timetable gives the exact suhoor and iftar time for your suburb once the start date is confirmed.
Is Ramadan 2027 the same date in Saudi Arabia and Australia?
Not always. Saudi Arabia and Australia each make their own announcement, so the two can differ by a day. ANIC explains in its Ramadan statement that its method is the timing of the new moon relative to sunset, and that the Imams and scholars may hold different opinions on this. Follow the date your mosque follows.
Where can I pray Tarawih during Ramadan 2027?
Tarawih is held in mosques and community halls in every Australian capital. It starts on the first night of Ramadan, after Isha. Browse the HalalHQ mosque directory by city to find your nearest mosque, and check its own noticeboard or page for the Tarawih time and the number of rakaat.
