Quick answer: yes, with one check
Steggles says its chicken is halal accredited by AFIC. Its crumbed, marinated and seasoned products may or may not use halal-certified ingredients, so for those, find the product on Steggles' halal list first.
What Does Steggles Say About Halal?
Steggles says its chicken is halal accredited by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils. That is its answer to “Are Steggles products halal?” on its FAQ page, which we read on 31 October 2026. In full:
“Yes, Steggles chicken is Halal accredited by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils Inc. (AFIC). However, our value added products (Steggles chicken which is crumbed, marinated or seasoned) may include ingredients which may or may not be Halal certified. Steggles FAQ: Are Steggles products halal?
Which Steggles Products Are Halal?
The ones on Steggles' halal list, which the FAQ links to. The list is marked “AFIC audit annually” and “Updated: October 2025”. It names fresh cuts and whole chickens, and also many crumbed, marinated and frozen lines by name and pack size.
So the catch in the FAQ is narrower than it first sounds. A crumbed product is not ruled out; it simply has to be on the list. If you cannot find a pack there, Steggles' own wording is that its ingredients may or may not be halal certified.
Covered by Steggles' list
- Fresh cuts, such as breast fillets, thighs, drumsticks, wings and mince
- Whole chickens and family roasts
- The crumbed, marinated and frozen lines named on the list, such as Crumbed Chicken Breast Tenders
Not covered, so check first
- A crumbed, marinated or seasoned product that is not on the list
- A pack whose name you cannot find on the list
- Another brand packed in a similar tray

How Do You Check a Steggles Pack on HalalHQ?
Open it on HalalHQ or scan its barcode. Every Steggles product we have matched to the October 2025 list shows Certified, with AFIC as the certifier and the list as the evidence.
A pack we have not matched shows what its ingredients alone can tell us, which for a seasoned or crumbed product is often doubtful or unknown. That is not a finding against the product; it means the certificate has not been tied to that exact pack yet.
Does Steggles Say How Its Chicken Is Slaughtered?
No. Steggles names its certifier but says nothing about the slaughter or stunning method in its halal answer, so we do not either.
If that matters to you, ask AFIC or Steggles directly. Our guide to whether all Australian chicken is halal explains how chicken is usually processed in Australia and where certifiers take different views.
An EST number is not a halal mark
The establishment number on a chicken tray identifies the plant, not a halal certificate. Our guide to reading the EST code explains what it does and does not tell you.
Did this help? Keep HalalHQ free
HalalHQ is independently built and free for the whole community, with no ads and nothing behind a paywall. If this saved you a phone call or a doubtful meal, a small contribution helps cover the servers and data that keep it running.
The Verdict: Can Muslims Buy Steggles?
Yes for Steggles chicken, on Steggles' own statement that AFIC accredits it, and yes for any crumbed, marinated or seasoned product on its halal list. For a value added product that is not on the list, Steggles itself cannot promise the ingredients are certified.
The quickest habit is to check the product page or the list before you buy something new, because the list is updated and products come and go.
